  • Croatia has recently approved a new land reform, The Act on Agricultural Land. The act was approved in January 2009.
  • The intention behind the reform is to increase the agricultural production towards a sustainable production for the domestic market, preparing for EU membership, strengthening the production and future export of fruit, vegetables, wine, olives, crops and meat including production of biomass for renewable energy (biofuels and biogas).
  • RELINK has been working in Croatia since 2006, identifying potential agricultural investments, including mine suspected areas were the investor can use the Integrated Mine Action Project (IMAP) as a platform to the market. IMAP is based on matching funds for demining and reclaiming arable agricultural land for investment and development. Read more about our services in the bottom of this page.
  • Croatia is importing approximately 70% of all agricultural products including meat products. With more than 3.15 million hectares of agricultural land, of which 50% is not in use, Croatia is a highly potential market for agricultural and forestry investment with strong domestic consumers, a growing regional market and EU enlargement around the corner.
  • The land reform includes the possibility of long term concession of state owned agricultural land (10 – 40 years), short term leasing (1 – 2 years) on very competitive conditions, purchase of state owned agricultural land, normally via public tender or in some cases directly via the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • Municipality owned land can be provided, for the right investor or developer based on a strong business plan, know-how or partnership with local farmers or companies.
  • Tender procedures require a legal entity such as a limited liability company, often proven record within agriculture, a good business plan and network consulting. RELINK has worked with networking, matching, feasibility, pilot projects and project management of agricultural projects in Croatia since 2006.
  • Croatia has a very potential emerging market for agricultural plantations (fruit, wine, olives and vegetables). The market for organic production is rapidly growing, with a clear procedure on how to achieve status as an Organic Farmer. The market for organic products is rapidly growing due to the large tourism industry.
  • Livestock production (sheep, cattle, pigs) is still low in Croatia after the homeland war, were more than 120.000 cattle lost their lives. Croatia and the rest of the region are large consumers of meat, which is why the market for investment is promising.
  • Approximately 50% of Croatia´s agricultural land is forestry. The market for forestry and wood production are growing, especially in continental Croatia (Sisak, Karlovac) but also in Croatia´s largest county Lika-Senj.
  • The Adriatic coast in Dalmatia offers good market conditions for fish farms, oysters and mussel production.
  • There are a number of various incentives, in a competitive market, with few strong players such as the former state owned corporative (PIK).
  • RELINK can provide experienced advisory in any agricultural project in cooperation with our strong partners NIRAS, Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb, Agricultural Institute in Banja Luka and Agricultural Institute NS SEME in Novi Sad.RELINK has a strong network of agricultural experts.
